Energy Efficient Lighting Reduces Costs to Fund Additional Services for One of the Nation's Largest Veterans Medical Facilities

MANITOWOC, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Orion Energy Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:OESX), a leading designer and manufacturer of high-performance, energy-efficient retrofit lighting platforms, today announced one of the nation's largest veterans medical facilities has approved a $1.58 million contract to renovate the facility using Orion's award winning lighting, sensors, and controls. This announcement marks Orion's second recent project with a VA hospital, following an installation in Virginia last year.

The hospital's inefficient legacy lighting will be replaced with almost 12,000 Orion LED systems and sensors including LED Troffer Retrofit (LDR) fixtures, which are manufactured in the United States in compliance with the Buy American Act, as well as other high-efficiency fixtures in office, exterior, and other applications. The additional energy savings from this project will increase the hospital's ability to fund additional services for American war veterans who have served our country.

This VA hospital is one of the nation's largest integrated medical facilities in the Veterans Health Administration, treating nearly 90,000 veterans annually. Working with its energy partner, the hospital selected the Orion LDR fixture for its clean and hygienic installation, along with its performance and availability of options.

Financed with a utility energy services contract, the project will not require any hospital operating funds to install the Orion technology. Installation will begin in March and continue through the spring. The project also helps meet several federal mandates and VA policies for sustainability to reduce energy consumption, promote healthy work environments, and protect natural resources.

Orion and its channel partner have completed over fifty projects with federal and state agencies in the last fifteen years, including a recent award by a major federal research agency, additional US Department of Veterans Affairs and US Department of Agriculture buildings, as well as Department of Defense facilities like Keesler Air Force Base, Tyndall Air Force Base, Kennedy Space Center, Naval Station Mayport, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Naval Air Station Pensacola, United States Marine Corp Blount Island, and many others.

Since its introduction in 2014, the Orion LDR suite has created a new standard not only for design, performance, and energy efficiency, but also a breakthrough in the ease of installation in troffer retrofit from fluorescent to LED, which reduces overall costs. The industry's first patented LED Troffer Retrofit suite reduces cost on the job site because it ships fully assembled, is adjustable to fit existing troffers, and typically installs in one to two minutes with no tools other than a ladder, compared to more than 10-minute installs for many competitive fixtures.

"It is an honor to be selected for this project with our channel partner on multiple fronts - from supporting their care with an American-made product to funding the project costs through the energy savings of the Orion fixtures," said John Scribante, Chief Executive Officer of Orion Energy Systems. "This unique partnership will transform the treatment rooms and offices, while allowing the hospital to reinvest those dollars back into their core mission of serving the men and women who are America's veterans."
