MANITOWOC, Wis., Apr 17, 2008 (PrimeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- Orion Energy Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:OESX) has obtained the Wet Location rating from Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) for its EG Series Enclosed and Gasketed High-Intensity Fluorescent (HIF) lighting fixtures. The Wet Location rated EG Series joins Orion's Damp Location rated EG Series fixtures and is available in 4-, 6-, and 8-lamp designs. With the Wet Location rating, Orion's EG series meets NEC Code Article #410-4 which requires all fixtures installed in wet locations to obtain the "Suitable for Wet Location" rating.

Orion developed the Wet Location EG Series in response to strong demand witnessed in the brewing, beverage and food service industries. "We believe the EG Series is the best performing HIF fixture to carry the Wet Location rating," said Neal Verfuerth, President and CEO of Orion. "Its application extends beyond the brewing industry as its design can bring the cost advantages of HIF into any enterprise where water spray is an issue that must be managed."

The EG units' Wet Location rating means the fixtures have been tested to meet or exceed standards for operation in a rain-like atmosphere. To obtain the listing, fully powered EG units underwent over 4 1/2 hours of testing, including 3 1/2 hours of simulated rain created by 1/8" nozzles spraying water at 5 psi pressure. Upon completion of the test, the units had no leaks and no shorts as shown by Hipot (dielectric) testing at 1960 volts.

UL is an independent product safety certification organization that has been testing products and writing Standards for Safety for over a century. Based in Northbrook, Illinois, UL develops standards and test procedures for products, materials, components, assemblies, tools and equipment, chiefly dealing with product safety. UL also evaluates and certifies the efficiency of a company's business processes through its management system registration programs.

Orion has deployed its energy management systems in 3,300 facilities across North America. Since 2001, Orion technology has displaced over 303 megawatts, enough electricity to power more than 250,000 homes per year, saving customers $304 million, and reducing indirect CO2 emissions by 3.8 million tons.
